Firefighters save home from chimney fire

The homeowners woke up to the smell of smoke coming from the fireplace.
Nashville firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the home.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Nashville Fire Department responded to a home in the Oak Hill area after the chimney caught fire overnight.

According to personnel at the scene, NFD fire crews were dispatched to 1122 Duncanwood Drive after the homeowners woke up to the smell of smoke. The fireplace attached to the back patio of the newly renovated home was used the night before and sparked sometime overnight, according to NFD.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the chimney before it spread to the rest of the home. No injuries were reported.

NFD reminds everyone to make sure fireplaces are inspected and cleaned at least once every year.
