Family mourns loss of unborn baby following tragic accident

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - In the aftermath of a devastating accident just over a week ago, a Nashville family is grappling with the loss of their unborn baby.
On April 1, Jay Bisaga said his wife was involved in a collision with a semi-truck on the interstate. At the time of the accident, she was approximately 35 weeks pregnant with their son, Ashton.
“We wouldn’t wish this kind of pain on anyone,” Bisaga said.
Despite getting medical help quickly, the situation took a heartbreaking turn.
“By the time we reached a point where the baby could be assessed, he had already passed,” Bisaga said.
Now, Jay and his wife, Hallie, are expressing their gratitude to the people who witnessed the crash and helped Hallie until the ambulance arrived. Unfortunately, amid the chaos, they were unable to get the names of these compassionate bystanders.
“I just want to thank them for being present, for taking time out of their day to help somebody,” Bisaga said. “This could have been a lot worse. I feel so thankful to have my wife. It hasn’t been an easy road for her.”
Amid their grief, the Bisaga family finds solace in the support they’ve received from their community at Immanuel Nashville Church and their loved ones. Holding on to their faith, they trust they will be reunited with their son one day.
“We really, really miss him,” Bisaga expressed. “Our lives feel completely upended, but we know we’re going to see him again. It’s a matter of when not if. Knowing that my boy is being held by Jesus... that carries us through, even when it’s just terrible.”
On Wednesday, the Bisaga family will gather for a burial service to honor Ashton, who passed away approximately one month before his May 4th due date.
A GoFundMe has been made to help pay for Ashton’s funeral and other expenses.
