SNEEDVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Tennessee Highway Patrol helped find two boys early Wednesday morning who got lost in the woods following a hike.

THP said the boys, ages 10 and 13, were found by troopers along a rural road in the Snake Hollow area of Sneedville in Hancock County.

“This is exactly what the Tennessee Highway Patrol stands for — serving and protecting all Tennesseans,” said THP Colonel Matt Perry. “Whether it’s on the highway, in a crisis or deep in the woods, our troopers are committed to being there when people need us most.”

The troopers who found the boys said they were preparing to return from their assigned search area when they found the boys walking along the road.

“We were actually on our way back to the house when we saw them,” Trooper Issac Cline said. “They told us they had been out walking in the woods and even took a nap.”

Several agencies worked together to find the missing boys, including THP Aviation, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and Hancock County Fire & Rescue.
