One Knox SC advances to U.S. Open Cup’s third round for the first time

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - For the first time in club history, One Knoxville SC is headed to the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. It comes after a 3-1 win over Greenville Triumph on Wednesday.
Stavros Zarakostas sparked the scoring in the 15th minute, following up an impressive goal by helping Mark Doyle get the ball in just ten minutes later.
Greenville had narrowed the gap to 2-1 by the 55th minute, only to be answered by a Babacar Diene goal in the 94th minute to secure a 3-1 win for the Scruffy City.
“Advancing to the Third Round of the US Open Cup for the first time is a testament to the culture being built here at One Knox,” said Zarakostas. “This is a group that is capable of pushing the club forward. We’re happy to get to the third round and we’re planning to keep it rolling.”
Details on One Knox’s next opponent will be the Colorado Springs Switchbacks on April 15.
