Claiborne Animal Shelter closes to public until further notice to address ‘situation’

NEW TAZEWELL, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Claiborne Animal Shelter announced on Saturday it is going to be closed to the public until further notice to address “a situation.”
The shelter said in a social media post it is taking the necessary steps to find the best path forward for animals and the community.
“For the health and safety of our animals, staff, and community, we will be closed to the public until further notice. This includes all general visits, adoptions, and intakes of cats, kittens, and puppies,” the post said in part.
Shelter officials said dog intakes are still being accepted, but only by appointment.
“This was not a decision made lightly, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience it may cause,” the shelter said.
While information regarding Saturday’s announcement is limited, it comes just days after it announced a pause in dog intakes due to a parvovirus outbreak.
The shelter reiterated that it is not closing for good, only until the situation is addressed and resolved.
