Antoine Massey captured six weeks after escaping from New Orleans jail, authorities say

NEW ORLEANS, La. (WVUE/Gray News) - A man who has been on the run for over a month after escaping from a jail in New Orleans has been recaptured, according to authorities.

Antoine Massey was recaptured in the 9400 block of Stroelitz Street in the Hollygrove area, authorities said.

Officials said the arrest came after a Crimestoppers tip.

Massey was alone in a house when he was surrounded and surrendered to authorities.

The arrest comes six weeks to the day since the escape of 10 inmates from the Orleans Justice Center jail, which happened after midnight on the morning of May 16.

Massey had resurfaced on social media June 5, with an Instagram post in which he declared his innocence and pleaded for help from President Donald Trump, Kim Kardashian and several rappers.

Massey is the ninth escapee to be recaptured. Only four-time killer Derrick Groves remains at large.
