District attorney dismisses Monroe County identity theft case, sheriff says
District Attorney General Stephen Hatchett said in court the warrant given to and shared by Emma Berger came from his office.

MADISONVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Monroe County Sheriff Tommy Jones provided an update Monday on an identity theft case involving Emilee “Emma” Berger.
Earlier this month, Berger was charged after it was alleged that she posted a man’s arrest warrant to social media that contained personal information, including his Social Security number and driver’s license number.

Jones said Berger’s case was dismissed Monday morning after a motion by District Attorney General Stephen Hatchett. He said the warrant given to and shared by Berger came from his office.
During the proceedings, Jones said Berger’s attorney requested her computer and cell phone be returned to her. However, Jones said the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is “currently reviewing matters related to Ms. Berger and potentially other individuals, along with the existence of a federal lawsuit tied to this case.”
Based on that information, Jones said the judge ordered that the devices remain in the court’s custody for another 10 days, and Berger can have them back if no further action or request is received from TBI or federal proceedings.
Jones said additional details will not be released at this time due to the sensitive and ongoing nature of the situation.
