Hikers find partially decomposed body in Putnam County

MONTEREY, Tenn. (WSMV) - A group of hikers discovered a partially decomposed body in eastern Putnam County on Sunday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Eddie Farris said deputies are at the crime scene near Monterey working to identify the deceased and determine the events leading up to their death.

“Our Investigators are diligently looking back at previous missing persons cases from the past weeks and months from this county and the entire state, as well as exploring any and all other avenues that can lead to the identification of this person,” a statement from the sheriff said.
