Motorcyclist dies after allegedly running red light on Clinton Highway, Knoxville police say
It happened on Clinton Highway at Tillery Drive, according to the department.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Knoxville Police Department responded to a deadly motorcycle crash Monday morning. It happened on Clinton Highway at Tillery Drive, according to the department.
Officers responded to the crash at around 11 a.m., KPD said. Based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed the motorcyclist was driving southbound on Clinton Highway while an SUV was traveling eastbound on Tillery Drive.
The SUV started to proceed through the intersection once the light turned green when KPD said the motorcyclist allegedly ran the red light and hit the side of the car. After the initial crash, the SUV hit another car and caused minor damage.
The motorcyclist, a 67-year-old man who has not been identified, was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation.
It’s the third motorcycle crash in as many days in Knox County, the second of which is deadly.
