Three Lady Vols earns All-SEC First Team honors

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Three Tennessee Lady Volunteers have earned a spot on the All-SEC First Team.

Those Lady Vols include senior right-handed pitcher Karlyn Pickens, junior right-handed pitcher Sage Mardjetko and junior outfielder Alannah Leach.

Mardjetko was also named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year while Pickens was also named to the All-SEC Defensive Team.

Pickens, a two-time All-American, spearheaded this Tennessee pitching staff with a 1.52 ERA and a .91 WHIP. Pickens started 13 games, played in 28 and picked up five saves. She held opponents to a .132 batting average with 157 strikeouts on the season.

Mardjetko holds an ERA of 0.96, good enough for best in the SEC and second-best in the NCAA. She holds a 12-2 record in the circle with a team-leading 19 starts and 150 strikeouts on the season.

Leach holds the second-best batting average on the team with a .330. She has batted in 23 runs and has hit a team-leading 12 home runs. Leach currently has a 1.153 OPS and a .718 slugging percentage.

Tennessee softball was eliminated in the second round of the SEC tournament by Ole Miss. The Lady Vols now look forward to Selection Sunday to see who they will host in the Knoxville Regional next weekend and if they made the cut to host a Super Regional.
