One injured after ceiling collapses inside Knoxville home, fire department says
Two people were initially trapped in the collapse, KFD said, but they were able to quickly be evacuated.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Knoxville Fire Department said it responded to a tactical rescue Sunday afternoon after a ceiling collapsed inside a home.
KFD said crews responded to a home on Chestnut Street just after 12 p.m. for a reported roof collapse. However, when crews arrived on the scene, KFD said they saw the sheetrock ceiling and insulation in the front room had fallen in and was not a roof collapse.
Two people were initially trapped in the collapse, KFD said, but they were able to quickly be evacuated.
KFD said one person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. An additional eight people who lived in the home started cleanup immediately and will be able to stay in the home. This update comes after KFD’s first report said they would be displaced as a result of the collapse.
Crews remained on the scene for less than an hour, returning to service by 12:50 p.m., KFD said.
