Tennessee families can now view TCAP scores. Here’s which districts performed the best

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Tennessee Department of Education has released district-level results from the 2025-26 TCAP tests, giving families a closer look at how students performed across the state.

The new TCAP dashboard includes state- and district-level results for English language arts, math and social studies. Science results are not included because science is in a standard-setting year.

TDOE said participation was strong statewide, with 141 districts reaching participation rates of 97% or higher and 125 districts reaching participation rates of 99% or higher.

Less than half of Tennessee students are proficient in any school subject, data shows

The district-level release follows last month’s state-level TCAP results, which showed gains in English language arts, math and social studies. However, a WSMV4 Investigates analysis previously found that, despite those gains, less than half of Tennessee students were proficient in any tested school subject.

According to TDOE, 78 districts had more than 40% of students score “met expectations” or “exceeded expectations” across all subjects, while 30 districts had more than 50% of students meet or exceed expectations across all subjects.

Tennessee TCAP results show gains in English, math and social studies

The department said 86 districts increased all-subject proficiency rates from the 2024-25 school year to 2025-26, and 118 districts improved from 2023-24 to 2025-26.

Twenty-seven districts had math proficiency rates of 50% or higher.

In English language arts, Morgan County Schools and Stewart County Schools posted some of the biggest gains. University Schools-Memphis had the highest ELA proficiency rate at 73.9%, followed by Collierville Schools at 71.9%.

TDOE said 23 districts had ELA proficiency rates of 50% or higher.

For all subjects combined, Williamson County Schools had the highest proficiency rate in the state at 73.9%.
