Early voting underway for federal and state primary, county general election: What to know in Knox County

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - With early voting officially underway on Friday, July 17, the Knox County Election Commission is making sure you know where to go before heading to the polls.

Ballot Options

Early voting kicked off at 9 a.m. at the Karns Senior Center with 10 other locations opening at 10 a.m. on Friday. There, voters will have a choice to vote one of the following three ballots:

• Republican State and Federal Primary, along with the Knox County General Ballot
• Democratic State and Federal Primary, along with the Knox County General Ballot
• Knox County General Ballot without a Primary selection.

Additionally, all voters will vote in the state general election, which features retention positions for seven Judicial positions.

As for voters who live in Farragut, they will get to vote in the Town of Farragut Municipal Election, which features three races.

Locations

There are 11 locations across Knox County that will be open for early voting, including one new location in East Knoxville that officials said moved a few doors down from its previous location on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.

Hours of Operation

Early voting gets underway on July 17 and runs through Saturday, Aug. 1 before Election Day on Aug. 6.

Hours at all locations will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Friday’s hours will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the first two Saturdays will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., while the last Saturday will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Special Hours of Operation

The downtown location will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 18.

The Northwest Knox County location will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and closed on July 18 and 25.

The South Knoxville location will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, July 17 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Absentee Ballot Request

The last day that voters can request an application for an absentee ballot is Monday, July 27, but election officials said anyone wishing to vote absentee should make their request as soon as possible for the ballot to reach the voter and be returned in time.
