KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Tennessee’s Voice of the Vols Mike Keith is preparing to ramp up his Vols programming as the team quickly approaches its first 2026 matchup.
Keith will be bringing plenty of Vols shows to the air — and WVLT+ — this season. One project he said he’s looking forward to getting back in the swing of: Volunteer Gameday.
“I love that show. I love the energy of that show,” he said. “It flies by. And I can’t wait to see what we’re going to have for folks as we get deeper into September.”
Volunteer Gameday brings together Keith, WVLT’s and LVFL Brittany Tarwater and VFL Heath Shuler. The three tackle everything fans need to know about that week’s game, just a couple hours before kickoff.
“A lot of Tennessee players, special guests, special features,” Keith said about the upcoming season. “The last word before the teams go play football and a chance to extend that across the state of Tennessee and let everybody feel like they’re in the stadium.”
Volunteer Gameday isn’t the only show Keith is preparing for, though. He’s also expanding The Mike Keith Show to five days a week, an hour each day. He said the extra challenge is something he’s looking forward to.
“Going to the five nights a week show, the one-hour format has been a lot of fun to get started,” Keith said.
Part of the excitement around bringing Tennessee-focused shows to fans lies in how the team is shaping up ahead of the season’s start. Keith spoke on Faison Brandon, Tennessee’s freshman QB1.
“You’ve got a freshman quarterback,” he said. “And I think from my standpoint, you want to see how far along he is as quickly as possible. The other thing too— I want to see this defense. Not just one player, but I want to see the entire defense because schematically, I think they’re going to look so different in terms of the style of play.”
Tennessee will take on Furman for its first matchup, Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
