HAWKINS COUNTY, Tenn. (WSMV) - The father of Summer Wells, Don Wells, was arrested on Tuesday, the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) confirmed to our NBC affiliate WCYB.
HCSO said Wells was charged with domestic assault.
Wells was arrested after an incident on Monday, Oct. 12. Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on Ben Hill Road in Rogersville, which led to his charge.
Summer has been missing for over five years and her case has become “one of the most extensive missing child investigations” in Tennessee’s history.
She was just 5 years old when she was reported missing from her Hawkins County home on June 15, 2021.
Since her disappearance, law enforcement has pursued multiple leads; however, despite thousands of tips, the case has continued to stump investigators.
This is not the first time Don has been in trouble with law enforcement since Summer’s disappearance.
On Feb. 9, 2022, less than a year after Summer’s alleged disappearance, Don pleaded guilty to DUI in Hawkins County court and served 180 days in jail.
Wells is due in court for his latest charge on Wednesday, October 14, at 8 a.m.
