FULL COVERAGE: New-look Lady Vols hold media day
Tennessee’s entire 15-player roster enter first year with program
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Following a complete roster overhaul over the offseason, Tennessee women’s basketball introduced its brand new roster to local media on Wednesday at its annual media day.
Kim Caldwell met with media first, calling her team the closest she’s been around since her time coaching at her alma mater, Glenville State.
“I haven’t seen a team in quite some time, probably my Glenville days, because small town makes you closer, that has hung out this way and has been this close off the floor,“ said Caldwell. ”After practice, it was about 9:00, they all went to the volleyball game and made a student section and I think that’s what makes this team special.”
Caldwell also commented on how her team has embraced the tradition of Lady Vol basketball.
“We have done book reports and a lot of different learning sessions about former Lady Vols and making sure that, again, they understand the weight of what they’re doing,” she said.
Following Caldwell’s media scrum, players met with local media individually. John Sartori chatted with West Virginia transfer Riley Makalusky and Texas transfer Aaliyah Moore.
Tennessee continues preparations for the regular season on Oct. 27 against Florida A&M. The regular season begins on November 2 against Duquesne.
