Part of I-75 south closed after multi-semi wreck causes diesel spill in Loudon County, sheriff’s office says
It happened after a northbound semi truck lost a steer tire and then struck another semi-truck.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Parts of l-75 south are shut down due to a multi-semi wreck that caused a diesel spill in Loudon County, according to the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office.
It happened around 9 p.m. on I-75 southbound near mile marker 83, just south of the I-75 and I-40 split.
According to LCSO, the multi-vehicle wreck involved two semi trucks and a passenger vehicle.
The wreck happened after a northbound semi truck lost a steer tire, crossed the median, and entered the southbound lanes, striking another semi. A passenger vehicle additionally struck debris in the roadway, LCSO said.
After the wreck, spilled diesel fuel began to leak onto the roadway. Loudon County Emergency Management is addressing the spill and coordinating cleanup efforts as of Monday night, according to officials.
LCSO says closures are expected to last until at least midnight, and the wreck will cause congestion on I-75 northbound and both eastbound and westbound I-40.
The sheriff’s office urges caution for those traveling near the area and to seek an alternate route if possible.
This is a developing story.
