KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee is hosting it’s annual “Double Your Donation” drive.

The bank is calling for donations because every penny given will be matched by several sponsors, up to $750,000. The event runs from Tuesday at 6 a.m. through Dec. 5.

On top of giving directly to Second Harvest, donations made through WVLT’s Days of Giving food drive will also be matched and doubled.

“Inflation has placed a heavy burden on families, particularly those already facing hardship,” said Elaine Streno, Executive Director of Second Harvest. “This day of giving is an opportunity to support your food bank in providing critical meals during the colder months. Your generosity ensures that we can continue to serve our East Tennessee neighbors and offer a lifeline to those struggling to make ends meet.”

Second Harvest has set a lofty goal this year; the bank wants to provide more than 2.25 million meals to those in need.

Those interested can donate directly here. Those who would like to donate food items can stop by the WVLT News station on Tuesday or Wednesday.
