CLAIRFIELD, Tenn. (WVLT) - More than six months after two men were found murdered at the abandoned Kopper Glo Coal Mine, investigators provide an update on the case.

Nathan Hamblin and Robert Hatfield were shot and killed and found in a tower more than 50 feet in the air, according to Claiborne County Sheriff Bob Brooks.

Sheriff Brooks said on Wednesday they believe there are multiple suspects that they believe knew both Hamblin and Hatfield.

While they’ve zeroed in on their suspects, Sheriff Brooks said they’re having a hard time locating them and believe they may have left East Tennessee.

“Those two men weren’t out to hurt anyone or to do anything to cause anyone pain or harm. They were just out to have a good time,” said Karla Hamblin, who is Nathan’s Aunt.

Hamblin said that there’s been a feeling of uncertainty in small-town Coalfield, but she hopes that someone will volunteer information leading to an arrest.

“It’s your worst fear that it’s just going to stall out, and it’s going to become a cold case. A family needs closure,” said Hamblin.

Sheriff Brooks said there has not been an arrest made yet, but you’re asked to contact TBI or the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office at 423-626-3385 if you have information.
