WATCH: Otters, red panda make the most of snowy day at Zoo Knoxville
Zoo officials said both otters and red pandas are well-adapted to colder climates.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Some of the animals at Zoo Knoxville were happy to see snowy weather on Wednesday.
Among those that had the most fun in the snow were the North American river otters. Clayton, Pascal and Reed were spotted sledding on their bellies, showing off their natural love for the cold.
Sisu, the zoo’s red panda, also enjoyed Wednesday’s snow and can be seen above eating a snack while surrounded by snow.
Zoo officials said both otters and red pandas are well-adapted to colder climates. River otters have thick, insulating fur that helps keep them active even in chilly temperatures, and red pandas are native to the Himalayas, meaning they are perfectly built for winter with their dense fur.
Zoo Knoxville is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
