KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A Chicago sandwich shop is expanding into Knoxville with four new stores. Potbelly Sandwiches got its start in 1977, and now it’s planning its first expansion into East Tennessee.

“We first got to know Potbelly during a trip to its home market, Chicago, and saw an opportunity to bring the concept to the Knoxville market,” said Nick Patel, a member of the family group franchising the stores. “There’s a gap in the market for a fast casual sandwich brand that combines a high-quality, craveable menu with a one-of-a-kind experience. Potbelly stands out because of that balance, and we’re excited to introduce a brand that we believe will resonate with both locals and visitors across East Tennessee.”
It marks the latest expansion from a franchise into the Knoxville market, something sure to become more common as the Scruffy City continues to see a population boom. Other notable additions include Whataburger and Hawaiian Bros.
