Man allegedly used binoculars to look into apartment windows from Knoxville parking garage
He had been on top of the parking garage for five hours before officers responded to the scene, court records said.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A Hancock County man is facing charges after he allegedly used binoculars to look into apartment windows from the top of a parking garage in Knoxville.
According to court records, officers went to the Lake Avenue parking garage Tuesday afternoon after receiving a report of a suspicious man using binoculars to look into apartment windows.
The man, identified as 43-year-old Dusty Cooper, of Sneedville, immediately dropped the binoculars when officers got to the top of the parking garage, court records said.
When asked why he was staring into apartment windows, Cooper allegedly told police he “didn’t know” before saying he was making phone calls and saw a woman walk past in “nothing but a towel” and started using binoculars “to get a closer look,” calling it a “bad idea.”
Court records said officers went to the apartment he was allegedly staring at, and they said they had seen Cooper on top of the parking garage “for multiple days.” Cooper said he had gone there on his lunch break for the last two days, but security camera footage showed he had been at the top of the garage for nearly five hours before officers responded to the scene.
Cooper was charged with three counts of felony invasion of privacy and simple possession due to officers finding a THC vape during a search.
