Crews rescue injured kayaker after boat overturns in Knox County
First responders rescued the kayaker early Tuesday morning, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - First responders were busy early Tuesday morning after a kayak overturned in Knox County.
Deputies with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and Knox County Rescue Squad called to a report of an injured kayaker whose kayak had overturned in the 3000 block of Johnson Frazier Cemetery Road, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officials with KCSO said that the initial location information was limited, but dispatchers were able to maintain contact with the victim long enough to help narrow his location.
Deputies responded to the area and assisted in finding the man, allowing rescue crews to deploy a boat and reach him, KCSO said.
“We want to recognize our Adam Shift deputies, Knox 911 dispatchers, EMS, and rescue personnel for their rapid response, teamwork, and coordination in bringing this incident to a successful conclusion,” the sheriff’s office said.
