More than 20 people displaced after massive Knoxville apartment fire, KFD says
The Knoxville Fire Department said people jumped from the third floor of the building to escape the fire.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Fifteen people, two dogs and a cat have been displaced after an apartment fire in Knoxville, according to the Knoxville Fire Department.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, KFD’s Timothy Woods said in a news release. Woods said fire crews responded to Greenbrier Ridge Way after getting the call, which is the address for a building that’s part of The Collective at Sutherlands complex, previously known as Greenbrier Ridge Apartments.
Woods also said people jumped from the third floor of the building to escape the fire.
“The fire was deemed under control by 7:45, but more than half of the building is a total loss,” Woods said. “Ten units in the building are uninhabitable.”
Three people were taken to the hospital, Woods said, and one dog was taken to an emergency vet.
