Driver found suffering from gunshot wound after crash, Knoxville police say

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Knoxville Police Department said an investigation is underway after a crash near I-275 Sunday morning.

KPD said shortly after 10:30 a.m. that the crash happened at Woodland Avenue at I-275 North.

When officers arrived on the scene, KPD said the driver of one of the cars involved was suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

It was confirmed that the individual died at the hospital due to what appeared to be a self-inflicted wound, as of 3 p.m. the next day.

KPD additionally noted that this investigation remains ongoing.
