Tennessee wildlife agents searching for missing kayaker in Blount County

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is searching in Blount County after a kayaker was reported missing on Tellico Lake.
The man was reported missing on Aug. 11, and TWRA’s Matthew Cameron said another lake-goer found his kayak and other belongings adrift in the water around 1 p.m. Wednesday just down from Chilhowee Dam.
“A vehicle belonging to the missing individual was also located at a nearby boat ramp,” Cameron said. “A search was conducted by TWRA game wardens, Blount County Sheriff’s Department, and THP using sonar equipment, as well as THPs aviation unit. No targets were identified.”
Cameron also said TWRA crews searched nearby islands, but didn’t find the missing man. The area poses challenges to the search as well, with Cameron saying there’s no radio or cell phone service.
The search is ongoing, according to Cameron.
