KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A Knox County middle school student was taken into custody after making a verbal threat Thursday.
The incident happened Thursday morning, according to a letter sent to parents by Bearden Middle School Executive Principal Susan Hutton.
Hutton said the school’s administration worked with the school safety officer and law enforcement to quickly handle the situation.
“I want to reiterate how seriously we take the safety and security of our students,” Hutton said. “Please help us by reminding your child that threatening or inappropriate comments - regardless of intent - can lead to serious consequences.”
This news comes after a verbal threat prompted an evacuation at Hardin Valley Middle School at around noon on Thursday. Ultimately, no threat was found, and students returned to the classroom at around 2 p.m.
It is unclear if these threats are related to one another. WVLT News has reached out to Knox County Schools for additional information.
